So you want to be a prophetic musician...
During this 40-day fast, I’ve been thinking a lot about the place of music in God’s kingdom, especially how it relates to the second coming of Christ.
Music is the greatest form of entertainment in every culture and in every generation throughout history. Why? God has given the human spirit a deep musical dimension. There is something so mysterious about music. How do you hit a piece of wire in a guitar or piano and deeply move the human heart? When we hear God’s truth through anointed preaching it moves us. However, if we hear God’s truth in context to God’s music – music anointed by the Spirit – it moves us much deeper.
This post is just the beginning of a multi-post series on prophetic music and where the Lord will take the impact of music at the end of the age. I hope you stick around for them all!
I want to set a little context for these posts and give some important background information on why prophetic music is a critical component to God’s end-time strategy.
I want to start by looking at Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28 – they give us insight into Satan’s past and why his coming rage against worship leaders, prophetic singers, and prophetic musicians is something that cannot be ignored and must be taken seriously by the end-time church. Lucifer was the somehow involved with music, that we can be sure of - some say perhaps he was the anointed worship leader in heaven before his downfall.
““You were the anointed cherub who covers;
I established you;
You were on the holy mountain of God;
You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones.”
(Ezek 28:14 NKJV)
“Your pomp is brought down to Sheol,
And the sound of your stringed instruments;
The maggot is spread under you,
And worms cover you.’”
(Is 14:11 NKJV)
“You were in Eden, the garden of God;
Every precious stone was your covering:
The sardius, topaz, and diamond,
Beryl, onyx, and jasper,
Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold.
The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes
Was prepared for you on the day you were created.”
(Ezek 28:13 NKJV)
Lucifer was the anointed cherub and worshipped in God’s presence, and because of his sin, he fell from God’s immediate presence and cast to the heavenly places around the earth. This is only the first stage of his ultimate downfall. Revelation 12 tells us he will be cast out of the heavenly places and confined to the earth for period before he is put in prison and ultimately cast into the lake of fire at the end of the Millennial Kingdom. Revelation 12 also tells us that Satan is not going down without a fight, but when he does go down, he will be full of intense rage and hatred. This coming war in the Spirit realm will be fought, aided and strengthened by the praying, worshipping, prophetic church at the end of the age.
Satan, the worshipper of old, has an enmity against the worship leaders of this hour. Part of his privileged position is now occupied by worship leaders, singers, and musicians on the earth. Undoubtedly Satan’s rage is focused even more intensely against these that an added measure of urgency is needed for them to be in the place of protection from Satan’s strategies.
Satan is in heavenly places right now above the earth, working his schemes against us and accusing the saints night and day before God. But Daniel 10 gives us a model of what the church will be doing at the end of the age to bring him down to the earth. Just as Daniel fasted and prayed and the archangel Michael was sent as assistance to dethrone the “prince of Persia” (Daniel 10:13), so will a praying church full of anointed worship leaders, singers, and musicians in partnership with Jesus raise Michael up once again to fight with Satan and cast him to the earth.
Worship leaders, singers, and musicians are the “point of the arrow” that God has chosen for the assault against the kingdom of darkness. With this understanding, our seemingly insignificant or small worship gatherings take on much more of a purpose and meaning, and to be a musician or singer at the end of the age carries weight unlike anything we have known. If you’re a worship leader, singer, or musician, the Lord is calling you for this hour for more than a few good songs on a Sunday morning or for a nice CD that goes platinum.
Stay tuned. In the next post in my little series I will highlight some of the scriptures that make this reality even clearer and develop this concept more.

Re:So you want ot be a prophetic musician
If you want to be a prophetic musician, you can't be.
You gotta KNOW you're a prophetic musician. Now, you
could BE one already and not know that that's what it is
you are doing..talking with your instrument and breaking atmospheres and ushering in the glory and breakthrough or deliverance..whatever. But you can't decide you want to be that and then try to learn it..you can not. You either are or you aren't.
in light of the comment above...
Mr. Greg is right... to a degree. You either are or aren't a prophetic musician (I would also add singer/ prayer leader/ etc...). However, you may be a prophetic musician and not know you are even a musician. There are those that have been so deceived, they haven't even given place to music in their lives period. What if you are a prophetic prayer person and want to start playing an instrument? I am convinced, that as we move more and more in the prophetic in any one area, we will become more and more prophetic in all areas of life. Whatever we set our selves to - God will speak through if we remain close to His heart!
I've got to agree, I don't
I've got to agree, I don't think it's something that can be taught or even persued. It's already in you.
Scripture
Paul exhorts us in Scripture to desire the prophetic gift. If you would like to be a prophetic singer, then you just need to ask God for it and trust him to bring you into it. There's no such thing as "you are or you aren't" - but you probably wouldn't even want to be a prophetic singer if you weren't a musician or anything like that anyway.
You guys are funny...
All these random comments over the title of my post rather than it's content :)
I have to agree with Ryan Peter's comment though, Paul tells us to earnestly desire prophecy, which means that it takes God's intervention to bring us into it. It is a gift which God gives ask we ask Him for it. Being a musician with the spirit of prophecy takes cultivation, prayer, and a life lived in obedience to God. It's like everything else with our life in God - it's practical. God gives us the gift, but we have to ask for it, and asking persistently is something Jesus continually speaks of throughout the gospels.
I guess the main thrust of why I titled the series "so you want to be..." was gleaned from all of our childhood longings to be like the rock star or cool guy on stage at the concert. We know that God is looking for the meek and humble - completely in contrast to the childhood rockstars we would adore.
So, hopefully that clears things up for all of you :)
Blessings!
